The raw materials for wood-plastic composite flooring mainly consist of two parts:
1. Wood fiber (approximately 50-60%): This typically uses waste wood chips, sawdust, bamboo powder, rice husks, straw, and other plant fibers from wood processing plants. This part gives the flooring a natural wood appearance and feel.
2. Thermoplastic plastic (approximately 30-50%): Commonly used are polyethylene (PE, often used outdoors) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC, often used in indoor or high-end outdoor co-extruded products). This part gives the flooring its core properties such as waterproofing, moisture resistance, insect resistance, and corrosion resistance.
3. Additives: Small amounts of UV stabilizers, antioxidants, and colorants are added to improve the flooring's weather resistance and color stability.
The production process involves physical mixing, fusing wood powder and plastic at high temperatures and then extruding them into shape. No glue is used in the entire process, therefore formaldehyde emissions are extremely low (usually "not detected").
