Step-By-Step Installation Guide of LVT Flooring

After preparing your subfloor, you need to let your LVT flooring acclimatise in the room to stop it bowing when installed.

Next, measure and then cut your underlay to the correct size and lay it on the subfloor.

Start to lay your LVT tiles from a wall. Use a spacer (7-10mm) to maintain a gap between the LVT and the wall.

LVT click flooring should be laid at 90-degrees to the angle you used to roll the underlay.

Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for connecting the click flooring. Normally, you will just need to push down until the tile clicks into place.

To install your final tile, you may need to trim it using your Stanley knife to ensure a proper fit.

Maintenance and Care Tips for LVT Flooring

Daily Cleaning Routine
Keeping on top of daily cleaning of your LVT flooring will keep it looking at its best. Take care to sweep or vacuum up dust and debris regularly to avoid marking the floor.

Handling Spills and Stains
Wipe up any spills as soon as they happen using either a damp cloth or mop. Take care to dab at the stain rather than scrub it.

Long-Term Maintenance
To extend the longevity and appearance of your LVT flooring, it’s best to keep up with regular cleaning of your floors by vacuuming and gently sweeping regularly.

To avoid damaging your floor, try to avoid walking on it in high-heeled shoes and using abrasive cleaning materials on the surface. To take extra care of your floor, you may also want to place soft pads under furniture legs to avoid denting and scratching the floor.

FAQ

Q: Which is better laminate or LVT?

A: Generally, LVT tends to be a superior choice for bathrooms and kitchens due to its waterproof nature, ease of cleaning, and often antibacterial properties. In contrast, while laminate is water-resistant, it can warp and swell with prolonged exposure to moisture, requiring more careful maintenance.

Q: Is LVT used in high end homes?

A: Luxury vinyl for high-end homes offers a compelling combination of style, durability, practicality, and affordability, making it a modern marvel that's challenging the dominance of traditional flooring materials.

Q: What is warmer, LVT or laminate?

A: LVT is the warmer and softer of the two, and with the addition of an underlay it can feel warmer still. As for laminate, the thicker it is the better insulated will be the floor. LVT's sound insulation properties in particular can also bring enhanced sound-proofing and better room acoustics.

Q: Can you mop LVT flooring?

A: Can you mop LVT flooring? Absolutely, it needs to be a well wrung out mop or a damp cloth to wipe the surface, it's important not to over wet or soak the floor. It's recommended to clean your LVT flooring once or twice a week depending on the use of the room, this will avoid any stains settling into the surface.

Q: Can you use vinegar and water on LVT flooring to clean?

A: What is the best homemade cleaner for vinyl plank floors? A mix of 1 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon of warm water works well. Add a small amount of mild dish soap if needed. This cleaning solution removes dirt without harming the finish.
